I N F L U E N C E S

Two great masters, already classics in music history, exerted a direct influence on my composition. Dmitry Shostakovich, who during my training period in the Soviet Union was the great idol and role model. I met him through my professor Kolodub in Kiev, at a meeting with composition students, and later attending rehearsals of the opera Katerina Ismailova, which he came to supervise. Another major influence in my life as a composer was Aram Khachaturian. My relationship with him was more direct; I often played works by my colleagues for him to evaluate, and I even received his advice on my own compositions.
